Every dental practice will grow with the clarification of uniform diagnostic criteria and improved treatment acceptance skills. Many practices fail to create clarity in their diagnostic criteria. This creates variance in how clinicians in the practice view restorative opportunities which results in under diagnosis. The creation of uniform criteria exposes many more opportunities to recommend treatment. When combined with improved treatment presentation skills and patient-centric, benefit-oriented verbal skills, treatment acceptance markedly increases and practices grow significantly and quickly.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the most effective methods to grow a practice through improved, calibrated and uniform diagnostic criteria and increased treatment acceptance
  • Understand the impact of Artificial Intelligence in diagnosis
  • Introduce a “system” for communicating the benefits of treatment and how to overcome patient objections to treatment

So, you can do a pretty good composite filling. Great, now let’s take this to the next level. This lecture is going to disrupt common thinking. Like, NOT crowning post-endo teeth. NOT crowning all teeth with cracks. How about teeth with deep decay dangerously close to the pulp? How about a tooth that breaks multiple cusps? How about large restorations that are also deep? It can be exciting, fun, and profitable.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the philosophy on how to do a complex and composite restoration

Perhaps no other subject has been more popular in the discipline of Periodontology in recent years than periodontal plastic surgery. Indeed, surgical correction of gingival recession and other mucogingival defects around natural teeth has been shown to be successful and predictable. While there are numerous techniques which can be used to obtain root coverage and increase tissue thickness, we cannot always apply the same technique in all areas of the mouth as different areas have their own nuances and considerations. Hence, a site-specific approach must be applied to optimize surgical outcomes. This lecture will integrate the existing evidence with clinical cases to demonstrate site-specific approaches and techniques for treating gingival recession with the most favorable outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Differentiate between the various gingival recession classifications and their clinical implications for treatment planning
  • Evaluate the unique site-specific considerations (e.g., anatomy, keratinized tissue) that dictate the selection of a surgical technique
  • Formulate an evidence-based treatment plan for root coverage by matching the optimal surgical approach to the defect characteristics

Cracked teeth received a variety of definitions and descriptions over the years. A lack of agreement still prevails among clinicians on this topic when it comes to diagnosis and treatment planning. Accurate clinical evaluation, including 3D imaging, should be the foundation of our assessment of cracked teeth, mainly to avoid over diagnosis of such a condition. A current understanding of differential diagnosis plays a major role in ruling out any other pathosis that may mimic a cracked tooth. This presentation will include a review of the literature as well clinical cases that will be discussed. The clinical cases will be accompanied by the most recent evidence-based literature regarding classification, diagnostic terms and prognosis of cracked teeth.

Learning Objectives:

  • List the challenges in the diagnosis of cracked/fractured teeth
  • List the possible differential diagnosis for a cracked tooth
  • Discuss possible treatment options for cracked/fractured teeth based on the relevant prognostic factors
